Monastery of Agios Gerasimos is expansive and very impressive near the villages of Falgrata and Valsamata where you can view the tomb of Saint Gerasimos as well as his two cave-like quarters located beneath the monastery. Ancient Acropolis in Sami is a must visit place in Kefalonia.
Hiking, Biking, & Bird-Watching In Ainos National Park
Mount Ainos is the highest point in Kefalonia and located 30 km from Argostoli, known as Monte Nero and rises 1,628 meters in elevation inside a national park. The national park is ideal for hiking and mountain biking, and bird-watchers might spot woodpeckers, eagles, vultures, and hawks.
The forest flora includes many varieties of wild flowers like a large variety of orchids, of which are endemic, just like the violet of Kefalonia. Mount Ainos was first declared as a National Park in 1962 and houses the heart of Kefalonia’ s biodiversity that attracts many visitors from all over the world.
